What’s The Script?:

The Adventurer 2800 is one of the best and most popular GPS navigators out there, so when Memory Map announced it’s brand new update we were super excited. Now the Memory Map Adventurer 3500 GPS has finally arrived, and it completely surpasses our expectations. The 3.5 inch touchscreen is awesome, the maps are crystal clear in super hi resolution, and there’s a real luxurious feel to scrolling around in such detail. The screen also adds the use of a stylus, for complete precision when logging waypoints or for ease of use when it’s a bit nippy out and you’ve got thick gloves on. What’s really blown us away though is the speed- if you thought the 2800 was fast wait till you get a hold of this- you can scroll across a huge range of maps and it’s all there in front of you instantly. This marine edition includes over 800 UK & Ireland marine charts for detailed exploration of coastal waters.

The true measure of a GPS is how well it picks up the satellite signal, and the 3500 has a tremendous 50 channel GPS receiver which is absolutely state of the art, and will pinpoint your position even when you're undercover. The marine charts are pre-loaded to an in-built 4GB microSD card, and come on a disc for uploading to your computer. There's 2.5GB of memory to spare and a microSD slot for adding any number of maps. Added to this fantastic package is a cycle mount, mains and car chargers, a silicon case and of course the memory Map V5 Software for route planning, map sharing and analysis.

What We’re Loving:

One thing is clear as soon as you get the Memory Map Adventurer 3500 in your hand- it’s equipped for some really tough conditions. It feels far more rugged than the 2800, yet it’s slimmer, more compact, and also incredibly lightweight, which is amazing considering the size of the screen. They’ve made it fully waterproof with the official IPx7 rating, so it can withstand the harshest weather, and you can read the super bright screen in any amount of light or rain. The silicone case is great addition to the package, giving it extra protection from bumps and scrapes.

The Adventurer 3500 brings a whole new level of detail to map navigation; you can set up the Digital GPS windows in any way you like to display all kinds of information. Use a simple arrow or utilise sophisticated data such as XTE or VMG. If the 2800 was for getting started with GPS navigation, then the 3500 takes you into some bold new territory; it will equip you for some high level exploration, and it goes toe-to-toe with the best that Garmin has to offer.

The Wow Factor:

The fun doesn’t stop when you get home either, with Memory Map V5 software you can analyse your walks to the very last step, tracking your every move and plotting your next route or adventure. You can print your maps, transfer routes, and also add all kinds of maps from the Memory Map collection including marine charts, aviation charts and historical maps. A removable Lithium Ion rechargeable battery is a really practical feature- you can keep a spare one fully charged and just swap it round when it starts to run out, meaning you can be out on the waters for days without needing a power source.

The 3500 is an absolute pleasure to use; for beginners or experts alike it gives you everything you need, and I have a feeling even die hard Garmin users won’t be able to resist its charms.
