The Loving Outdoors Lowdown
Garmin are constantly improving their products and have now released the replacement to the popular Oregon 300 and 400 series. The Garmin Oregon 450 Handheld GPS features a faster processor, better software, a clearer screen and sophisticated 3-axis compass. Featuring Garmin's Hotfix technology the Oregon is able to quickly establish and maintain relaible satellite connection where other devices fail (e.g. in valleys or under canopy cover). The Oregon 450 also has a barometric altimeter which gives highly accurate altitude readings by monitoring air pressure and as such can also give weather information. Whereas most GPS devices come with a 2-axis compass meaning, the Oregon's compass is 3-axis allowing it to give an accurate reading whether the device is held vertically, sideways, upside down or round and round (rolly pollies not advisable!). Mapping-wise, the 450 has a built in memory of 850MB and a microSD card slot leaving plenty of room for downloading and saving routes. The anti-glare screen can display maps with crystal clarity to make the most of the Oregon's amazing graphical capabilities. Have a look at the video below for a quick round-up of the Garmin Oregon 450.
