The Loving Outdoors Lowdown
The Garmin GPSMAP 62st Handheld GPS is an update of the GPSMAP 60Csx and represents the next step for handheld GPS. It features an unbelievably accurate WAAS enabled high sensitivity receiver with Hot Fix technology and a quad helix antenna, which means it will give you a relieble satellite signal, wherever you are. There's also a highly accurate barometric altimeter for altitudinal readings and predicting changes in atmospheric pressure and weather. A 3-axis tilt-compensated compass will give an accurate reading without having to hold it flat, which is great if you're on the move or up the side of a mountain!
Display-wise, the GPSMAP 62st far exceeds its predescessors; the 2.6 inch colour screen is bright and readable in any amount of sunlight and the computer graphics are sharp and display topographic information clearly. Despite its sophistication, the 62st is also a tough nut, with fully waterproof casing with large rugged buttons making it one of Garmin's most robust units. There's also a 20hr battery life for great stamina.
Garmin's increased online presence will unlock a new world of navigation to GPSMAP 62st users. After finishing an expediation, plug the device into your home computer and log on to Garmin's global user network, Garmin Connect, where you'll be able to analyse your route data, plan and share routes and upload photographs to share with the a world of Garmin users. The wireless transfer capabilities (with compatible Garmin devices) will satisfy more localized sharing needs.
