What We're Loving
The Wireless transfer is absolutely awesome, we all know there's not many laptops knocking around at the top of the mountain, so you can share maps and data with another Garmin GPS by just lining them up close to each other and pressing send! The photo navigation on the GPSMAP 62s is a feature we really can't get enough of, and it can make any expedition truly come to life. Thousands of Garmin users upload tagged photos on to Garmin Connect which you can then download to your GPS and get route by route directions straight there. The GPSMAP 62s has an incredible 20 hours battery life so it's ideally suited to really long hikes or hunting expeditions. It also has automated routing, as well as being able to store 2000 waypoints and 200 routes, and a tracklog that stores 10,000 points and 200 saved tracks. The GPSMAP 62s has a microSD slot and can really come alive with the additional uploads- with Birds Eye Satellite Imagery (subscription required) you can have satellite images of your location straight to your device, which is great for hunters following game trails, allowing them to spot clearings and tracks. You can also add the City Navigator for using the GPS in your car or the BlueChart g2 card for navigating the water. Of course with a microSD slot you can also upload any amount of highly detailed Ordnance Survey Maps, so there's no limit to what you can explore!
The Wow Factor
One of the main pursuits the 62 series is built for is geocaching, and because you can download the caches it's paperless, so you can do your bit for the environment as well as saving yourself the hassle of manually tapping in all the information. For hunting enthusiasts the GPSMAP 62s is also at the top of its game, you can add incredibly detailed 24K or 100K maps with shaded relief that let you know if you're approaching steep declines, heading into flatlands or approaching high ridges. With 1.7GB memory there's no end to the amount of maps you can upload to this awesome device and with the option of Garmin Custom maps you can convert your favourite electronic or printed maps into a navigable download with automated routing, or choose from thousands of maps that are up there. When you've finished exploring you can hook your GPS to your computer, and use Garmin Connect to upload all the data of your expedition for analysis. You can share routes and tracks with thousands of online users, as well as monitoring your travels using Google Earth and connecting with people all over the world with Facebook and Twitter.
