The eTrex 20 updates the classic eTrex with a colour display and advanced mapping capabilities. Retaining the user friendly feel of the original etrex, the eTrex 20 has the same joystick-style controller as its predecessor and intuitive screen-to-screen navigation. 1.7GB of internal memory allows room for up to 2000 waypoints allowing you to store all your favourite routes. There's also a Micro SD card slot which will accept and run the latest Garmin Discoverer mapping chips; a huge leap forward for supposed 'budget' GPS. Ideal for geocachers, the eTrex 20 is set up for paperless geocaching and will download GPX files direct from Geocaching.com. The new eTrex series is the first-ever consumer-grade receivers that can track both GPS and GLONASS satellites simultaneously. GLONASS is a system developed by the Russian Federation that will be fully operational in 2012. When using GLONASS satellites, the time it takes for the receiver to “lock on” to a position is (on average) approximately 20 percent faster than using GPS. And when using both GPS and GLONASS, the receiver has the ability to lock on to 24 more satellites than using GPS alone.
