Memory Map have announced their new GPS device, the Memory Map Adventurer 2800. This handheld device will feature a 2.8″ high resolution touch screen which is the best in the maket to date with a whopping 92’000 pixels. It will also be compatible with previous Memory Map software and for those without any software, don’t worry because they have included a 2GB MicroSD card preloaded with 1:50,000 maps of Britain’s National Parks (OS Landranger). If National Parks aren’t your thing either Memory Map have also included 10,000km2 credits to their popular Digital Map shop software which will allow you to choose your own mapping areas anywhere in great Britain.

We were mostly impressed with the Memory Map Adventurer 2800′s refresh rate or lack of it! You can zoom, scroll and scale detailed maps without any load time. The maps seamlessly appear. This is a huge plus for those wanting a fast GPS device because nearly every GPS on the market currently has the dreaded refresh load time.

The Memory Map Adventurer 2800 is weatherproof and very rugged which is suprising because it only weighs 135g with batteries. Often we have found that when electronics get lighter, quality slips somewhere. But all in all this is a well put together GPS that can wear its “rugged badge” wth pride.

The Adventurer 2800 also fits comfortably in the hand and is not much larger or heavier than a mobile phone. This makes it very easy to use especially with one hand but for us the main plus is the ability to plot routes on your computer using the included Memory Map PC software.
